Police clamp down on bootleggers in Ahmedabad

In concerted raids, cops seize IMFL worth Rs21 lakh in Vejalpur, Vastrapur and rural Ahmedabad.

Police is all set to spoil the year-end parties of booze lovers as the rural and city police have started to clamp down on bootleggers in the city. In three different operations the police have nabbed liquor of worth Rs19 lakh from Sarkhej-Bagodra Highway, Rs75,000 from Vastrapur and a major chunk of Indian made foreign liquor seized by the Vejalpur police.

The Vastrapur police have seized 182 bottles of IMFL from Divyajyot Appartments in Bodakdev of Vastrapur. "We have arrested Dinesh Mevada, the bootlegger in the area as well as have declared two people as absconders," a source in Vastrapur police told DNA. On the basis of the information, police conducted the raid at around 4:00 pm on Saturday. 

The source further said that Mevada, during the interrogation said that, he purchased IMFL from Raju Marwadi and Ajit Kalal. "We have seized a bike and a scooter," the source said.

Apart from that the DCP zone-1 squad raided a house in Juhapura and seized 304 bottles of IMFL. Assistant sub-inspector, DCP-squad, Bhima Rahevar told DNA that they have raided at the Hazrat Bilal Society near Sonal cinema in Juhapura and arrested Nasir alias Sonu Khalifa and have declared Arif Popat as the absconder in the case.

Apart from that early in the day, the local crime branch of the rural Ahmedabad seized 6,546 bottles of IMFL from Sarkhej-Bagodara Highway. Two people have been arrested for this. "Total IMFL worth Rs19.36 lakh has been seized," a police source said.
The police arrested Shankararam Mazhirana—driver and Rajendra Mazhirana—the cleaner of the truck and have also seized the truck. Sources said that they belong to Jhalor district of Rajasthan.

During interrogation they said that Anil Gupta a resident of Bhopal had delivered the IMFL from Udaipur to Ashok Marwadi in Bhavnagar. The truck was to reach Bhavnagar through Bagodara.

LCB police inspector JP Raol said these IMFL bottles were being smuggled in for the New Year's Day party.

Ashok Marwari is a big fish in this field. He has been in the business for 20 years and has been held under PASA eight to 10 times. Many offences at Amrewari, Ramol, Kandbha and at Ahmedabad cities have been registered against him.
