Crime branch officials on Sunday arrested a thief from Udhna railway yard, against whom more than 57 cases are pending.

According to information, crime branch officials arrested Bharat Patil alias Patil Bandhu from Udhna railway yard. Patil, 38, a resident of Maliwad area at Vyara in Tapi district, is wanted by many police stations in the state. Cops recovered gold jewellery worth Rs36,000 from him, which he had stolen from Bardoli. He was to board a train from Udhna railway station for Maharashtra, to sell the stolen jewellery, when he was caught by cops.

"Patil has committed more than 200 thefts in Gujarat and Maharashtra till now, while more than 57 cases are registered against him under various police stations in Gujarat. He does not have any gang -  all thefts are committed by him all alone. He commits thefts in daylight and mostly targets houses and small shops," CJ Goswami, PSI of crime branch, said.
