PIL demands ban on pan masala, gutkha in UP

A PIL seeking a ban on the manufacture and sale of pan masala and gutkha across Uttar Pradesh was on Wednesday placed for hearing before the Allahabad High Court.

In the PIL filed by Uttar Pradesh branch of Indian Dental Association, a ban was sought on pan masala and gutkha alleging that these contained tobacco and nicotine which were injurious to health.

A division bench comprising justices Amar Saran and Anurag Kumar ordered that the matter will be taken up for hearing on Monday.
