Phool Bagh no longer venue of political rallies

The historical Phool Bagh ground in the city will no longer be a venue of political rallies with the authorities deciding to develop it as a park to attract tourists.
    
"Phool Bagh will no longer be a venue of political rallies. It will be developed as a park to attract tourists," Kanpur Mandal Commissioner P K Mohanti said here today.    

Located at the centre of the city at Mall Road, the ground has been a preferred venue for political parties to host public meetings and rallies for a long time. However, it has also been a cause of inconvenience for people due to huge traffic jams caused during these gatherings, he said.
    
The ancient park houses Ganesh Udyan building, an orthopaedic hospital set up during the First World War.     

The district administration will shift the venue for such events outside the city, an official said.
