Mitesh Patel, a member of the GCCI, has filed a civil suit in the city civil court seeking a fixed tenure of the prospective office bearers only till April 30, 2011.
The issue of selection of executive council and office bearers of the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) by its High-powered Committee (HPC) reached the door steps of the city civil court.
The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the GCCI is scheduled to be held on Saturday evening and the HPC is going to declare names of the members of the executive council and officer bearers of the body. However, Mitesh Patel, a member of the GCCI, has filed a civil suit in the city civil court seeking a fixed tenure of the prospective office bearers only till April 30, 2011. As the AGM is scheduled to meet on Saturday, civil judge AP Bhojak will hear the case on Saturday morning upon the request made by Patel.
The high-powered committee led by Karsan Patel took charge of the situation following resignation of office bearers and executive committee members from their post. The committee also appointed a steering committee to take care of the day-to-day work of the chamber. The HPC introduced changes in the constitution of the GCCI and decided to conduct elections of the GCCI before April, 2011.
The HPC decided to announce name of executive committee members along with office bearers through selection process. Meanwhile, Mitesh Patel, through his advocate Haresh Shah, filed a civil suit on Thursday. "We have due respect for the HPC, whose members are five prominent industrialists of the state. But it should fix tenure of the members only till April 30, 2011," Patel said.
Patel further said that if the HPC gives tenure to the members for more than this period it is a violation of the constitution of the GCCI.
