City school Sheth CN Vidyalaya conducted a pilot project in class IX of the new continuous and comprehensive evaluation (CCE) system. All went smoothly till the year-end when some confusion cropped up over the marksheets issued to students.

Several students said they didn't know the difference between percentage and percentile and in what way they differed. This is the first time that the results had percentile ranks instead of percentages.

However, clarifying this, principal of CN Vidyalaya, Hitendra Trivedi said, "This situation was bound to arise as the concept is new. But there should be no confusion as such because students can anyways calculate their percentage with the total marks given in the mark sheet."

Also, the school will conduct a special session to clarify the difference between percentile and percentage before the students get their class X and XII results.

The mark sheets will have grades and percentiles this year. So, the students need to have knowledge on it, he added.

The pilot project has received good response from parents and students as it involves continuous assessment and semester system for the students.
