People’s Democratic Party seeks changes in Afzal Guru resolution

Main opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday moved an amendment in the ‘Save Afzal Guru’ resolution urging the House to express sympathies with the families of the victims of the parliament attack.

PDP has decided to support the resolution submitted by independent MLA from Langate Sheikh Abdul Rasheed aka Engineer Rasheed seeking amnesty for parliament attack convict Afzal Guru on humanitarian grounds.

However, as the house met on Monday, PDP moved an amendment seeking addition to the resolution urging house for expressing sympathies with the families of the victims of the attack.

“No one can understand the pain of violence then people of Kashmir. We therefore have moved an amendment in the resolution urging House to express sympathies with the families of the vicitims who died in the attack”, said Mehbooba Mufti, PDP president.

DNA was the first to report about the resolution submitted by the independent MLA from Langate constituency Sheikh Abdul Rasheed aka Engineer Rasheed seeking amnesty to parliament attack convict Afzal Guru.

The amendment comes three days after PDP decided to support the `Save Afzal Guru’ resolution in the Legislative Assembly when it comes for discussions on September 28.

PDP has 21 MLAs in the 89 member lower House, which includes two nominated members also. The resolution needs simple majority to sail through in the House.

The resolution comes for debate on Wednesday.
