By year end you will be able to drive peacefully to Geeta Mandir, and also park your car at the fourth floor with a hydraulic car elevator or mechanised parking if, as promised, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s much-hyped multi-storey parking comes true.
The civic body is coming up with its first of the lot multi-storey and mechanised parking facility at its Rs10 crore multi purpose sports complex project at Raipur, tenders for hydraulic car elevator of which have already been floated. Though the multi-storey and mechanised parking will be constructed at the sports complex will not only be catering to its visitors alone but also for others.
Experts and AMC officials believe that the multi storey and mechanised parking facility with a capacity to hold 400 scooters and 100 cars will decongest areas like Geeta Mandir road, Cloth Market, area around Mahavir complex and Sarangpur Darwaja. Currently, haphazard traffic on main roads lead to congestion of road as majority of these places are commercial areas attracting shoppers from across the city.
Architect of the project, Hiren Gandhi said that tender has been floated to supply, test and commission hydraulic car elevator or a lift to park vehicles at higher levels. “The AMC requires a hydraulic car elevator of 3X5.5 metres size,” Gandhi said, adding that the multi purpose sports complex has provision of basement parking as well as from first floor to the fifth floor in the building. The sports complex building is almost ready and has facilities like swimming pool, skating ring, 100 metre joggers track etc.
According to Gandhi, there will be space for around 80 cars if the AMC opts to park cars on the first to fourth floors while accommodate around 400 two-wheeler vehicles at the basement and ground floor. The hydraulic car elevator, to cost an estimated Rs25 lakh, might take around one and a half months for installation and testing of the machine, said municipal commissioner IP Gautam. “The multi-storey and mechanised parking should be operation within four to five months,” said Gautam , adding that the move will solve traffic problem and congestion on road because of random vehicle parking.
“The multi storey parking at Raipur is located at such a place that it will also benefit those people who have to commute to other places everyday for jobs or on other business purposes and are forced to park their vehicles on the road. For example, if someone wants to take bus from Geeta Mandir or Kalupur railway station they can park their vehicle in multi storey building and hop on to a bus,” Gautam added.
