Pakistani spy to remain in police custody for another day

A suspected Pakistani spy, who is alleged to have been doing recce of army installations, was today remanded to one more day in police custody by a Delhi court to help investigators nab his accomplices.

Sajjad Haider, 43, hailing from Lahore, was apprehended by a team of Delhi police's special cell from Samalkha village here on September 14 on a tip off from central intelligence agencies.

He was produced in the court of chief metropolitan magistrate who allowed the police to keep him for one more day for interrogation.

Haider, who has been booked under the Official Secrets Act and the Foreigners Act, was produced before the court at the end of the seven-day police custody.

Delhi police's special cell, which had nabbed him from a east Delhi locality, sought his further remand to locate and identify his alleged accomplices, who facilitated his activities in the country.

The police claimed to have recovered some confidential documents related to Indian Army, a fake Indian driving license, a PAN card along with Western Union money transfer receipts, rent agreements, mobile sim cards and phones from his rented accommodation in Samalakha.

They alleged that Haider had entered India in September last year through Bangladesh.

The accused is also alleged to have procured mobile sim cards of different companies on the basis of his fake driving license and on the basis of IDs of other persons.

According to police, he had also come in contact with one married lady and started cohabiting with her and her daughter to show that he was a family man.

During this period, the accused also worked as a driver on different cabs attached with call centers at Gurgaon and Delhi.
