Pakistan high commission has taken up with the Indian government the issue of a criminal case against cricketer Shoab Malik who is scheduled to marry tennis start Sania Mirza on April 15.

The high commission sources said they were in touch with the ministry of external affairs following a direction from Islamabad and were "making all efforts to get him out of the fiasco."

Sources also claimed the high commission has been assured
by Indian authorities that Malik's passport will be returned soon.

The passport of Malik, who has been slapped with cheating
and harassment charges by Hyderabad woman Ayesha Siddiqui who claims to be his wife, has been taken away by the police.

Pakistan foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said his government will extend all assistance to former cricket captain Malik.

"I have asked the high commissioner to India to contact India's Foreign Ministry and get information about the nature of the FIR and what is in it," Qureshi had told reporters yesterday.
