Pakistan is trying to push in maximum number of infiltrators to foment trouble in Jammu and Kashmir, the army said on Tuesday.

“We all know the weather is such that Pakistan is trying to infiltrate maximum number of terrorists. But our troops are prepared in all areas of Kashmir and Jammu and wherever infiltration is possible,” Lieutenant Colonel JS Brar, the defence spokesperson in Srinagar, said.

All the nine heavily armed militants Pakistan tried to push in through the Uri sector on the line of control have been killed in an operation stretching two days, he said.

“A group of heavily armed and well-equipped terrorists was continuously tracked by our troops despite inhospitable terrain and inclement weather. The area of operation was at 9,000 feet, which is very rugged and covered by a dense forest,” Brigadier Sunil Vaze, who commands the brigade at LoC in Uri sector, said.

He said heavy exchange of fire between militants and troops continued for two days and finally late Monday evening nine terrorists were gunned down. “All of them had sophisticated navigation and communication equipment and were armed to the teeth. Our troops did not suffer a scratch, which is laudable,” he said.
