Pakistan human rights activist Ansar Burney would be visiting ailing Pakistani virologist Mohammed Khalil Chisty in Ajmer on Friday.

"Burney will arrive here in the morning and leave for Ajmer, where he will pay obeisance at the Dargarh of Sufi saint Khawaj Moinuddin Chisty and meet Khalil," said a local activist Sandeep Gupta.

"Both will also appeal to the Pakistan authorities to consider release of Sarabjit Singh, an Indian convict languishing in a Pakistani jail for last 22 years, on humanitarian ground," Gupta added.

Sarabjit, who hails from Punjab, has been lodged in the Lahore prison since 1990 for his alleged involvement in four bomb blasts in Lahore and Multan that killed 14 people.

Though Sarabjit was slated to be hanged in 2008, Pakistani authorities put off his execution indefinitely after Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani intervened in the matter.

Chisty, who is serving life term after his conviction in January last year, was granted bail yesterday on humanitarian grounds.

A microbiologist by profession, Chisty had come to visit his ailing mother in Ajmer in 1992 when he got embroiled in a dispute and, in the melee, one of his neighbours was shot dead while his nephew got injured.
