Over 8,300 Bangladeshis arrested in Delhi in five years

According to Delhi police statistics, at least 8,360 illegal Bangladeshis were apprehended in the past five years with East Delhi and North Delhi topping the list with 4,310 and 1,710 arrests.

Over 8,300 Bangladeshi nationals were arrested in the national capital in the past five years for illegally staying here or indulging in criminal activities.
 
According to Delhi police statistics, at least 8,360 illegal Bangladeshis were apprehended in the past five years with East Delhi and North Delhi topping the list with 4,310 and 1,710 arrests.
 
Central Delhi comes a close third with 1,349 Bangladeshis being apprehended for either staying here illegally or indulging in crime.
 
Another area where a large number of Bangladeshis were caught was South-West Delhi where 880 people were apprehended during the last five years.
 
"We are conducting regular raids in slums and other localities were there are concentration of such people. If we find someone staying here illegally, we take steps to deport them," a senior police official said.
 
On July one, Delhi police claimed to have smashed a fake visa racket with the arrest of five Bangladeshi youths who allegedly used to send people abroad using fake visas of Ecuador. A similar gang was cracked by police last week.
 
A Bangladeshi was among 27 people who were arrested from IGI airport on July six while trying to fly to Dubai using fake visas. He had allegedly procured an Indian passport using forged documents.
