More than 2,100 cases which were pending in various courts here were today amicably settled in Lok Adalats organised by Delhi Legal Services Authority (DLSA).

The Lok Adalats, organised in all the six district court complexes, were presided over by lower court judges, DLSA said in a press statement.

Several civil and criminal cases, which were referred to the Lok Adalats by regular courts, were taken up for hearing to facilitate settlement.

"In the Lok Adalats, out of 2168 cases, 1,718 cases under Negotiable Instruments Act, 48 cases of Motor Accident Claims with award of compensation of over Rs 68.7 lakh and 402 cases related to plea bargaining, civil, matrimonial, electricity, labour and criminal compoundable cases were disposed of," DLSA said.

Chief Justice of Delhi high court Dipak Misra also participated in the Lok Adalats. 29 benches were constituted to dispose of the cases.

DLSA conducts Lok Adalats for all kinds of civil and criminal cases every second Saturday of the month to decrease the huge pendency of cases.
