Several areas of Delhi today faced outages for upto two hours due to shortage of supply to the tune of 900 mega watt by various generating stations including NTPC's Dadri plant in Uttar Pradesh.

Power department officials said that for the third consecutive day, Delhi got only 800mw of power from NTPC's Dadri plant out of its quota of 1400mw. Shortage of coal supply to the plant has affected generation of power in the plant.

Shortage of coal has affected generation of power in NTPC's Singrauli (Madhya Pradesh), Farakka (West Bengal) and Kahalgaon (Bihar) power plants, resulting in cut in supply of power to Delhi.

Officials said coal supply has been affected due to heavy rains in mining areas and the ongoing festival season in the eastern part of the country. Officials said shortage of water supply has also affected power generation at the Badarpur thermal power plant in Delhi, which resulted in short supply of 100mw.

Water supply to the plant was affected due to a temporary closure of the Agra canal.

Power generation was affected at Rajghat power plant due to the same reason and the plant could generate only 800mw out of its installed capacity of around 1,200mw.

Private power distribution companies said they had to resort to rotational loadshedding to overcome the situation.
