Amid the ongoing tussle between the government and opposition over the second generation mobile telephony spectrum scam, BJP-led NDA today relented to a request from finance minister and leader of the House in Lok Sabha Pranab Mukherjee to allow completion of important financial business in Parliament.

"Mukherjee spoke to the leader of the opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj today and said some important financial business like supplementary demands for grants for some states and ministries had to be passed as funds have to be transferred to them and not doing so would create a constitutional crisis," deputy leader of BJP in Rajya Sabha SS Ahluwalia said.

Swaraj assured Mukherjee that she would discuss the matter with NDA working chairperson LK Advani and floor leaders of other NDA allies.

Soon after the Question Hour was disrupted in the Lok Sabha and the House was adjourned, the NDA floor leaders met in Advani's office and agreed not to disrupt any government move to do financial business as the opposition should not create a constitutional crisis, Ahluwalia said.

However, the NDA floor leaders decided to continue to press for the opposition demand for a JPC probe into the second generation mobile telephony spectrum scam.

"It was decided that the opposition deadlock was against the government and not the constitution. If the government wants to transact financial business amid the din it would not be unprecedented. So, we agreed," Ahluwalia said.

Mukherjee had expressed apprehension that the opposition might try to snatch papers or its members may walk upto the Speaker's chair.

Swaraj later told reporters that she assured Mukherjee that the opposition would maintain discipline.

While some demands for grants were passed today in the Lok Sabha, the railways demands for grants are likely to come up tomorrow.

A similar understanding has been reached between the principal opposition and its allies with the government and financial business is likely to be completed there too amid demands for a JPC probe into second generation mobile telephony spectrum scam.
