A blowout of natural gas occurred with a bang at the ONGC well located at Raipura village near Vadodara on Friday evening, which created panic among the residents of surrounding areas. The incident took place during the work over operation. There was no report of any casualty, due to the leakage.

The well known as Padra-33 is a 10-year-old well. ONGC officials were conducting a work over operation, which was going on for last two days. On Friday, there was a sudden blowout of gaseous water mix with mud from the well. The high pressure blow out was such that the gaseous water and mud went about 40-feet high.

Due to the bang, and bad smell, the villagers were scared and panic set in the adjoining areas. Villagers could not resist the odor of the gas, and were seen covering their nose either through mask or handkerchief.

Talking to DNA, Sarpanch, Jaswantsingh Parmar said, "We have voluntarily passed instructions to people, not to ignite fire in any form, as a precautionary measure. Not only that majority of the villagers have voluntarily evacuated the village and shifted to their relative's places in the nearby villages."

The well falls under the Ankleshwar,-Khambhat asset. Talking to DNA, ONGC spokesperson, SK Jha said, "The incident occurred when the work over operation was going on. During the zone transfer, there was a sudden blow out. Instruments to tackle such crisis were there, but there was extreme pressure. The crisis management team is already working to control blow out, but have not succeeded so far."

Police have been deployed for the security arrangements along with the ONGC security and CISF.
