More than 2,000 farmers are staging a sit-in at village Jikarpur, under police station Tappal, which was the epicentre of yesterday's violence that started after police allegedly detained Ram Babu Katelia.
Security was today beefed up in nearly two dozen villages along Taj Expressway in Uttar Pradesh after one person was killed in police firing during overnight violence and arson by farmers demanding higher compensation for land acquired for a township.
"One person was killed yesterday in clashes between agitating farmers and the police," district magistrate Rama Rao said in Aligarh.

"Heavy patrolling by police and rapid action force is being carried out in over two dozen villages here where tension prevailed," Rao said.
Officials said one company (100 personnel) of Rapid Action Force and two companies of Provincial Armed Constabulary have been deployed and more forces are being sought.
The Uttar Pradesh government today appealed to the agitating farmers to remain calm and not to be misled by false claims on land compensation.
"Efforts by some opposition parties and anti-social elements to disturb peace by misleading people over the rate of compensation for land acquired for Yamuna expressway in Aligarh is unfortunate," a government spokesperson said here
Road traffic at a couple of places on Aligarh-Tappal state highway has also been blocked by the agitating farmers.
More than a dozen people were also injured in yesterday's violence of which eight had been admitted to Jawahar Lal Nehru Medical college here.
Additional director general of police Brij Lal has rushed to affected areas from Lucknow.
The farmers went on a rampage last night, ransacking a police outpost and setting afire a bus and a police vehicle.
The agitating farmers had earlier announced that on August 15 they will break down all the markers put up by the district authorities for demarcation of the acquired land.
The farmers have been demanding higher compensation for the land acquired for a township project by a leading real estate group along the Delhi-Agra Taj Expressway.
The farmers say they want the same compensation rate as given to owners of the land acquired between Aligarh and Noida.
"Police is exercising utmost restraint against women protesters who are leading the agitataion in Abakhera village in Mathura," district magistrate Dinesh Chandra Shukla said.
