A child was killed and five other sustained injuries, after their house collapsed and fell on an adjoining house, early on Thursday morning. Fire fighters rescued those trapped under debris, and the injured have been admitted to a private hospital in Adajan.

The reason behind the house collapse is not known yet.
The incident took place at Mahyavanshi mohalla in Adajan, where lighting struck a locked house. The house number 556 was destroyed in the process, even as thunder and loud explosions caused damage to the adjoining house. Due to the explosion, the debris of the second house fell on the third adjoining one, and all three houses simultaneously collapsed in a span of a few minutes.

Locals rushed to the spot and commenced preliminary rescue work. Fire fighters then arrived, saved six people trapped under debris, and moved them to BAPS Hospital in Adajan. A two-year old child named Anil Gohil succumbed to his injuries in the incident, while the condition of three of those admitted is reported to be serious.

Sources said that the six injured were asleep in their respective homes at the time of the incident, and hence did not even have the time to protect themselves. Fire officals claimed that primary investigations reveal a fire that resulted from gas leakage. However, no signs of fire were traced from the site.

Residents of the area said they heard extremely loud thunder before the house collapsed, which was decidedly louder than sounds generated from gas explosions. However, till late in the evening, the exact reason for the collapse could not be known.
