One feared killed in Kargil landslide

An employee of General Roads Engineering Force (GREF) was feared killed in a massive landslide in Zanaskar area of Kargil district, police said today.

The GREF personnel were busy in construction of a road when a landslide hit them last evening at Nimoo-Chadar Oadum, nearly 350km from here, they said.

A JCB vehicle and an air compressor machine got buried under a huge rock, also trapping an employee, while the rest of over a dozen others escaped unhurt, the police said.

Rescue parties immediately rushed to the spot and efforts were on to retrieve the trapped person, who is believed to be dead, they said.
