Omar Abdullah to review security arrangements ahead of Obama's visit

Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah has said that he will review with top officials the security arrangements ahead of US President Barack Obama's visit to the country to prevent recurrence of n incident like Chattisinghpora massacre in 2000.

In March 2000, suspected Lashkar-e-Toiba militants had gunned down 36 Sikhs in Chattisinghpora village in south Kashmir's Anantnag district during the visit of then US President Bill Clinton to India.

"When (former US President) George W Bush visited India nothing happened then. It is only once when (former US President) Bill Clinton visited the country that it (Chattisinghpora massacre) happened. From our side we will be fully prepared," Omar said.

The Unified Headquarters is scheduled to meet tomorrow to discuss the overall security scenario in the state with the special focus on security arrangements during Obama's visit to the country in the first week of November.

The meeting, chaired by the chief minister, will also review the preparedness of the security forces to tackle any upsurge in militant activity following yesterday's fierce encounter in Malroo area of the city in which two terrorists of Jaish-e-Mohammed module were killed after a day-long gunbattle with security forces.
