Low on popularity, the Omar Abdullah government in Kashmir decided on Sunday to put in place a mechanism to address people’s grievances in a systematic manner to regain their confidence.

Chairing a meeting of the National Conference (NC)-Congress legislature party ahead of Monday’s crucial all-party meet called to find a solution to the crisis in Kashmir, Omar expressed deep sorrow at the “unfortunate happenings in the recent past in the state”.

The meeting was aimed at showcasing unity in the coalition government, particularly against the backdrop of the prime minister and the Union home minister’s phone calls to People’s Democratic Party chief Mehbooba Mufti which left the ruling combine rattled. “The National Conference-Congress legislature party passed a resolution expressing faith in chief minister Omar Abdullah’s leadership,” an official spokesman said.
