Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah today met Union home minister P Chidambaram and defence minister AK Antony and stressed on the need for strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedures during anti-militancy operations.

Official sources said the talks focussed on full implementation of SOPs by the Army and the Paramilitary forces while fighting militants in the state.

During his meeting with Antony, Omar had said the Army should ensure presence of state police forces while entering civilian areas. Omar said these SOPs should be followed.

Recently, the Army had claimed to have shot down a man who it claimed was an aged terrorist, but later turned out to be a beggar.

During his talk with Chidambaram, Omar raised the issue of forthcoming Amarnath Yatra and sought more forces.

Sources said both sides also expressed happiness over providing alternate arrangements to paramilitary forces evicted from government buildings, schools among others.

The two also discussed the present security situation and also the chances of infiltration from across the border.
