Officials told to expedite development works in Lankan refugee camps

There are 115 camps in the state, with 73,000 Sri Lankan refugees staying for the last few years, an official release said.

Tamil Nadu government has allotted Rs100 crore for various devlelopment works in the 115 Sri Lankan Tamils refugee camps in the state, a top official has said.
    
The works included drinking water, street lights, power, toilets, borewell and drainage facilities and also repairs of houses and roads in these camps, director of rehabilitation Muthiah Kalaivanan said,
   
Addressing a meeting of personal secretaries and assistants to the seven district collectors in the West zone yesterday, he asked the officials to complete all the development works by this month end.
   
There are 115 camps in the state, with 73,000 Sri Lankan refugees staying for the last few years, an official release, quoting Kalaivanan said today.
   
Stating that 20,912 people have been provided with Kalaignar Insurance Scheme cards, he said that 20,152 persons were given colour TVs, and 635 students given bus passes.
   
He said 1,245 persons have voting rights in the camps and children in 109 camps have been provided with playing kits. It was planned to construct houses for the Sri Lankan refugees at a cost of Rs55 crore,Kalaivanan said.
   
Officials from Coimbatore, Erode, Dharmapuri, Salem, Namakkal, Tirupur and Krishnagiri participated in the meeting.
