US President Barack Obama will be welcomed "as any other individual" when he visits Rajghat tomorrow to pay tributes to Mahatama Gandhi eventhough tight security arrangements will be in place for the high profile visitor.

"The protocol for a visit of a foreign dignitary will be followed," officials at the Rajghat said, stressing that no special arrangements have been made for Obama.

They said the US president would be welcomed "as any other individual as special treatment would mean going against the ideals of Gandhiji," whom Obama had yesterday described as "hero not just to India but to the world".

Obama will enter the memorial through the VIP Gate. A green carpet will be laid out besides chairs for the dignitaries.

Authorities have made elaborate arrangements for ensuring foolproof security for Obama at the Rajghat. Senior security officials from India and the US Secret Services have surveyed the site to ensure that everything is in place.

Delhi police have strengthened its surveillance on the banks of Yamuna river to ensure that there is no intrusion at the Rajghat as well as on flyovers on the route, a senior police official said.

Security personnel have also sought the help of trained animal handlers from civic agencies to avoid an untoward situation as monkeys are usually seen in large numbers at the site.
