The MSU student union elections are in the midst of controversies after the decision to hold general secretary elections of the commerce faculty, a day prior to the general elections at the university. The ABVP expressed its displeasure against the declaration of same date for all the elections and demanded rescheduling of the dates, which was granted by the university officials. This has left NSUI infuriated who have threatened to stay away from the election process and go on hunger strike, if needed.

According to sources, MSU student elections were slated to be held on September 9.

A single date was announced to complete the entire election process.

The post for which elections were to be held include the post of university general secretary, vice-president, faculty general secretary, faculty representatives and class representatives of all faculties.

But before the decision could be announced, leaders of ABVP rushed to the commerce faculty officials on Saturday and expressed their displeasure against the decision. Their pressure tactics worked and dean and other faculty members changed their decision.

Faculty officials, then, slated a day prior to general election (September 8) as the date for the election of faculty general secretary for commerce faculty. This irked the NSUI and their supporters, who presented a memorandum to the faculty dean and student dean alleging that the faculty dean had changed the date to favour a particular student group.

Talking to DNA, NSUI senior leader Jha Desai said, "The faculty officials have changed the date to support ABVP candidate. We have given 24 hours to faculty dean to have a rethink about his decision, otherwise we will stay away from the process. Not only that we will start an agitation against them. If they don't change the decision, we will go on a hunger strike".

Refuting NSUI allegations, commerce faculty officials said that decision was taken keeping in mind the issue of security and availability of staff members and it was not taken to support any particular group.
