If medical experts are anything to go by, number of edentulous people in Gujarat is likely to be more than 5 lakh and 80% of the people in the state have partial edentulism. Most of the people facing such problem are after crossing the age of 50, but in some cases, even younger generation is suffering from this disease as it is a periodontal disease.

To help people suffering from edentulism, Nobel Biocare has come up with a Zygoma implant, which enables teeth implant in less than two hours. Moreover, it allows the person to eat and drink within few hours of implant operation. In case of traditional implant, it can take a year to do so. The result of the new technology is encouraging.

Other implant is not possible in case of insufficient bone, lack of sinus lift and bone grafting and patient, but this is not the case for the this implant. "This new generation implant is blessing for those who are edentulous or who have lost majority of teeth and having less bone and jaw bone," said Dr Monish Kohli, director of dental department, SAL Hospital, on the sidelines of an event held on Saturday.

"More and more people are coming forward to go through this implant treatment and the number of patients is growing by around 30% to 40 % in Gujarat every year," added Kohli.

Cost of the traditional teeth implant ranges between Rs20,000 to Rs45,000, whereas this new treatment will cost somewhere between Rs60,000 to Rs80,000, said the hospital officials. Around 30 doctor from across the city participated in the workshop organised to spread awareness about the new technology.
