Not a single case of polio in Gujarat in last five years: Narendra Modi

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said not a single case of polio has been reported from the state since 2007.

"Awareness has spread among common people due to anti-polio drops, and we have achieved successful results. After 2007,fortunately no cases of polio have been reported or registered in Gujarat," he said on the occasion of the polio immunisation campaign day.

About 86 lakh children are to be vaccinated as part of the government's campaign  to prevent the incurable disease, Modi said.

In Gujarat, about 8.6 million children will be administered anti-polio drops during the campaign held at centers across the state. Nearly 1.5 lakh employees and workers are engaged in this campaign.
