As the marriage season arrives, the atmosphere is filled with joyous and happiness as the city sparkles with lights and swings in celebration.

But there is a flipside to everything in life and the marriage season is no exception. With marriages come an alarming increase in the noise pollution of the city, which makes life difficult for the citizens.

There have been numerous marriages every day, in recent times. As these times are considered to be auspicious, all make full use the opportunity, and hurry to get married. But the celebrations take their toll on the eardrums of the people living in the vicinity. The police receive around 40- 50 complaints daily about the noise caused by late night celebrations.

In this regard, Dr MK Nayak, police control room DCP, has issued a notice to all the police stations in the 6 zones of the city, ordering them to warn and stop any kind of late night parties, garbas, and festivities of the like.

The issue is of the loudspeakers used in the celebrations, which, according to standard rules, are not supposed to be above 100 decibels, and the 'curfew' time is 10 pm.  A few locations have been found to be producing noise over 500 decibels, and well past the prescribed time limit, which is not acceptable.

A drive has been organised in order to help the elderly and sick people who suffer the consequences of such activities, and 14 locations have been prevented from creating a racket.

These places include Satellite, Navrangpura, Vastrapur, EllisBridge, Naranpura, and other such posh areas.

Ajay Tomar, JCP of sector-1, has confirmed that they will continue with this drive.

He said, "We have started this drive from our area, and we will extend it to other areas as well. This issue of noise pollution will not be taken lightly."
