Suresh Kalmadi, who is in the eye of a storm over allegations of corruption and mismanagement related to Commonwealth Games projects, today skipped a discussion on CWG preparations in the Lok Sabha.

The Congress MP from Pune and head of the CWG organising committee, who came under attack from leaders like Sharad Yadav and Kirti Azad during the discussion, was not present in the House today when  sports minister MS Gill gave his reply.

Kalmadi was present during the debate in the House yesterday but chose not to speak and it was parliamentary affairs minister Pawan Kumar Bansal who intervened in the wake of the barbs against him.

Yadav sarcastically dubbed Kalmadi, chairman of the organising committee of the games, as 'Shera' the mascot of the event.

Replying to a debate in the House, sports minister MS Gill said the government was ready for any level of probe but made it clear that it could be done only after the mega sporting event gets over on October 15.

Gill, however, rejected demands for a joint parliamentary committee probe. He said the organisaing committee, headed by Kalmadi, was a set up by the International Olympic Association.

"According to the agreement, the IOA is responsible for arranging the games and on February 10, 2005, an organising committee was registered with 484 members," he said.

"The broad picture is the government of India will construct the stadia and the organising committee will conduct the event," he added.
