In a bid to make the two IPL T20 matches scheduled to be played at Barabati stadium here later this week environment-friendly, the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) has launched a massive drive to check the use of plastics and polythene.

CMC has requested Orissa Cricket Association (OCA) to restrict the use of plastics and polythene to check the pollution in the Millennium city, its mayor SK Ghosh said.

''We have requested the cricket organizers not to use plastics and polythene during the matches or at best restrict the use of these substances sincerely. OCA authorities have also responded to our request supportively,'' he said.

OCA has made elaborate arrangements to provide cold drinking water at the stands during the matches and the security personnel have been advised to ensure that no water pouches or water bottles are allowed inside the stadium.

Tea and coffee would be served in paper cups instead of plastic cups inside the stadium, OCA sources said.
