The Ahmedabad Janmarg Limited (AJL) finds it difficult to get contractors to run paid parking lot under the flyovers along the BRTS corridor in eastern Ahmedabad. What has surprised AJL officials is that contractors are not willing to make bids as “people in eastern part of the city are not used to pay and park”.

When AJL invited bids for implementing paid parking system in the space under flyovers  at Vatva, CTM, Jashodanagar and Soni ni Chali,  no existing AJL contractor chose to make a bid.

A senior AJL official, explaining the reason for not getting bids said,”Contractors said that people have different habits and temperament in eastern Ahmedabad. They said even in western part of the city where educated and well-heeled people live, they struggle to earn money from parking. In eastern Ahmedabad, where people are not used to such system, it is not going to be easy to run the system,” said a senior AJL official. Despite this, AJL plans to re-tender and negotiate in a better way with the existing bunch of contractors. Even in western Ahmedabad, where AJL floated the tenders, the implementation didn’t come easy.
