No conclusive evidence to prove Headley's presence in Goa: Police

Goa police today said it does not rule out that American terror suspect David Coleman Headley could have been present in the state earlier this year, but has no conclusive evidence to prove about it.

"We are not ruling out his presence, but we don't have any conclusive evidence to prove it," superintendent of police (PRO) Atmaram Deshpande told reporters this evening, adding they had not received any such report from central agencies.

On media reports emerging from the national capital, he said, "We have nothing to substantiate the media reports. They are just reports."

The national media on Tuesday quoting Union ministry of home affairs had said that Headley had surveyed two prime locations in Goa – Arambl and Anjuna beaches.

The media report had also mentioned that National Investigating Agency (NIA), probing terror activities, had questioned a local woman who had rented out her room to Headley in Goa.

Meanwhile, Goa police has heightened security along the coast in the run up for Christmas and New Year celebrations.

Deshpande said four companies of para-military forces were stationed in the coastal belt who would work along with India Reserve Battalion and local police.
