On March 10, NID's photography department will launch its first ever book on photography written by Dr Deepak John Mathew, coordinator and professor of the photography department of the institute.

"Although there have been books in the past on the techniques of photography, softer aspects such as composition and principles of design through photography have not been covered so far," claims Dr Mathew.

His book is unlike the extravaganza of other photography books. It is a simple book categorised as per the five principles of design --  rhythm, harmony, contrast, balance and symmetry.

"While there is the main photograph, on the opposite page is its drawing and explanation of how it represents a particular category. It is easy for any one to go through and register it quite easily," Dr Mathew explained.

Dr Mathew also mentioned that this book is for all, designers, artists and photographers, students and professionals and even a layman who is interested in photography or is pursuing photography as a hobby or passion.

While a different perspective of photography forms the introduction of the book, there is chapter wise explanation on each principle.

Dr Mathew has also given at the end of the book a long list of books and other related materials from where one can learn more about photography.

The location and other details with respect to his photographs have also been mentioned at the end of the book.

The book will be launched in New Delhi by Jawhar Sircar, secretary, culture, government of India on March 10 and then it will be launched in Ahmedabad.
