It is the perfect example of innocents paying for others' crimes. Even as the ego clashes between the teachers and the management of the Sahajanand Arts and Commerce College (SACC) refuse to die down, a question mark is being raised over the future of the 256-odd students who have already secured admission in the college.

Following the controversy where students from Gujarati medium schools were denied admission into the English medium, the college finally admitted some 250 students into their Commerce faculty, and some 5-6 students in their Arts faculty. However, the problem here is that the intake has been glaringly less than usual, with the commerce section's 250 being only one-fourth of the total intake, and the 5-6 in the arts section also very evidently a very small fraction.

Now, the question is whether the SACC management will conduct lectures for just 5-6 students in the Arts and 250 students in the Commerce faculty or not. Highly placed sources closely observing the whole controversy, said, "This is nothing but a clash of egos between the management and teaching staff. It has become a prestige issue now, with neither side ready to bow down. Both the sides have filed cases against each other in courts, and nobody is in the mood to compromise or resolve the issue."

The source added that as a result of this controversy, it will finally be the students who will suffer.

Discussing the role of the Gujarat University (GU) in solving the issue, sources said, "As SACC is a grant-in-aid college approved by the state government, GU does not have much of a role to play in the controversy. It may issue some notices to the college or the university vice-chancellor may pressurise the management, which he is already doing. But beyond a point, it can't force them."

The source added that the GU can't do anything if the teachers do not teach.
