Former BJP ideologue KN Govindacharya today said the Ram temple issue is related to faith and cannot be resolved through the court or mutual dialogue but only through enactment of a new legislation.

"Ram temple is not an issue related to any individual or party but to the belief and faith of the entire country and it cannot be resolved through the court", Govindacharya told newspersons in Lucknow on the sidelines of a function.

"Resolving the issue through mutual dialogue also seems to be difficult and so the only way that looks feasible to solve the issue is through enacting a legislation", said the former BJP leader who was in Lucknow to take part in a seminar.

"At the most, the court can give its verdict on the title of the land... this is an issue connected with the culture of the country and so it cannot be resolved through the court", he said.

Recalling how his efforts in the past to find a solution to the issue through dialogue had failed, he said, "It is possible only when the intentions are clear."

Blaming the politicians for the long standing dispute, Govindacharya claimed that the people of the country, both Hindus and Muslims, were ready for construction of the temple and asked the Union government to assign the task to organisations other than those involved in the case.

On BJP's 1990 Somnath to Ayodhya Rath Yatra, he said it was meant for awakening people and not creating friction as was done by those who wanted to exploit the situation to win over Muslim votes.

Earlier, addressing a seminar on 'Global pressures and national economy', Govindacharya said the country's economy was headed towards slavery.

He warned that two major decisions to be taken in the near future, including Indo-European economic treaty and permission to Walmart, may prove to be dangerous for India.
