The NDA today accused the Congress and the RJD of trying to create a "caste frenzy" in Bihar ahead of the Assembly elections and requested the Election Commission to "derecognise" them.

A delegation of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) leaders led by its convenor Sharad Yadav today met the Election Commission members here and submitted a memorandum.

"Congress and RJD leaders met the Election Commission in Patna and tried to mislead it. Their entire effort was to destabilise the administration in the state," leader of opposition Arun Jaitley told reporters after the meeting EC officials here.

Congress and RJD demanded a "large scale" reshuffle and removal of government officials on "caste lines" alleging before the EC that many officials and state security personnel were posted by the NDA government to influence the poll process in its favour in the state, he said.

The complaint was a calculated move with definite purpose to prejudice the Election Commission and also to malign the image of not only the state government but also the officers, the NDA charged in its memorandum to the EC.

"The complaint made on wholly incorrect facts tends to promote feelings of enmity and hatred on grounds of caste between different classes of citizens," it said and requested the Commission to deal "firmly with such political parties which have ventured to make incorrect baseless and scandalous allegations".

Suggesting EC to invoke Section 125 of Representation of People Act, it said, "We would request the Commission to take step to derecognise such parties whose leaders have unnecessarily tried to create caste frenzy in the state."

Jaitley said that a complaint can be against some individuals and "we have urged the Commission, if they feel that there are some individuals who are not fit for conducting elections, they can be removed."

"But by adopting any such strategy in which attempts are made to finish any category can bring entire administration to a halt," he said.

Jaitley said that the NDA delegation requested the Commission to "ignore and reject" the "baseless" attempt of Congress and RJD to destabilised the "good and healthy administration" of the Bihar government.

The delegation also requested the Commission to provide central paramilitary forces in adequate strength to conduct "free and fair" elections in Bihar, he said adding that NDA was satisfied with the the manner in which the EC conducted elections in Bihar in 2005.
