A non-bailable warrant has been issued against AICC general secretary Birajit Sinha in connection with a case of contempt of court.

The warrant was issued by the chief judicial magistrate here yesterday as Sinha did not turn up before the court despite repeated summons in the case filed by a CPI-M member.

CPI-M member Anjan Roy had filed the case against a group of Congress members, including Sinha for allegedly attacking the Left party activists in February last year before the Tripura assembly elections.

When contacted, Sinha, now campaigning in Jharkhand for assembly poll there, told PTI over phone that he would appear before the court in the first week of next month on his return.
