With Nepal finally getting a new Prime Minister, its President Ram Baran Yadav today said he was thankful to Maoists in his country for helping end the political stalemate and hoped that the ultra-left extremists in India too will realise that democratic path is the best.

"I would like to thank the Maoists (in Nepal)... and even tell the Naxalites that democratic path is always the best, and you have freedom of speech, and in spite of all the difficulties you can solve the problem," the visiting Nepalese leader said.

The 63-year-old leader, who recalled the difficult period Nepal had undergone in the past, sought the support of the international community, particularly India and also said that his country needs the "blessings of the Indian people to go through the process."

"I also hope that the peace process will speed up and we will soon have a new Constitution," he said, while expressing his happiness over the election of a prime minister. "Earlier, the King (of Nepal) never accepted the democratic system, which I think was the most unfortunate."

Communist leader Jhalanath Khanal, 60 was yesterday elected the prime minister of the country with the crucial support of Maoists, ending the seven-month deadlock over the formation of a new government after Maoist supremo Prachanda quit the race.
