Traditional sheri garbas, glittering ethnic costumes and ecstatic dancers swaying to the music in perfect sync – the Navratri celebrations at St Xavier’s Loyola Hall witnessed all that garba nights are famous for.

One of the city’s prominent names in education, the school played venue to scores of boys and girls with unmatched energy and vigour.

The record 10,000 crowd comprised mostly teenagers in lovely ethnic clothes who had the time of their lives, and made for a very pleasing sight to onlookers as well.

Principal Fr. Fernand Durai was thrilled by the response. “Because of the closure of the party plots by the AMC, we have got a really big crowd and we are happy about it. Our programme has been organized by the school and the Association of Past Xavierites (APX). We make it a point to celebrate all festivals in our school.”
Smriti Shah, a dancer at the venue, flaunted gorgeous clothes that she said she’d had specially made from Jaipur. She chose kundan and meena style jewellery to enhance the look.

Robin Gulati, a young student who was seen engrossed in some funky steps at the venue, said, “The celebrations appear a bit dull this year, as compared to the last. However, I’m hoping that things will perk up as the night goes by, and the energy levels will rise.”

The gathering at the venue made some definite fashion statements. Many youngsters were seen to have abandoned their traditional oxidized fare for more colourful and matching jewellery this time.

Several girls also matched their bangles & bracelets with their clothes, and turned up in dresses that spoke of absolute fashion harmony.
