National Women's Commission team today got "details" from those who claimed to have seen the murder of Sister Valsha John in Pakur of Jharkhand.

Sister Valsha, who came to Jharkhand as a nun about a decade ago, was killed at Pachwara village in Pakur district on November 16.

"The role of Panem Coal Company will also be looked into," member secretary Anita Agnihotri told reporters while suspecting coal mafia's hand in nun's killing. Besides Agnihotri, retired justice RS Sodhi and ex-IPS officer Vinod Sharma met Sonaram Hembram and his wife, in whose house the nun was staying, for about half-an-hour and saw the room where the sister was hacked to death.

The team members also questioned other 'eyewitnesses' and spoke to Deputy Commissioner Sunil Kumar Singh, Superintendent of Police Amarnath Khanna and Deputy Inspector General of Police VK Pandey.

The team would look into the circumstances and reasons behind the killing before submitting the report to the commission and would give a copy to Human Rights Commission, one of the members said.

The team wanted to speak with the rape victim for whom Sister Valsha had urged the police to register an FIR against the culprits. But she was not available, one eyewitness said.

The team also sought to meet father Tom of a mission in neighbouring Sahibganj district to get his version of the incident.

Valsha, who had come as a nun and joined a school as a teacher in Sahibganj reportedly run by the mission, shifted to Pachwara about seven years ago and led Raj Mahal Bachao  Andolan against the company over displacement following coal mining in Pakur's Amrapara block.

Inspector General of Police (Santhal Pargana), Arun Kumar Oraon, had told the press on November 20 that 30 Maoists and 15 villagers were allegedly involved in the nun's killing and seven of the villagers were arrested in this connection.
