Narendra Modi takes a jibe at Election Commission, Congress

More than a week after the Election Commission (EC) ordered covering up of elephant statues in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh, chief minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday took a dig at the Congress party asking if elephants in Republic Day parade would also be removed.

Writing on micro-blogging site Twitter, Modi took a jibe at the Election Commission’s orders and asked if elephants in the January 26 parade were also a violation of the model code of conduct. “Centre makes bravery-award winning children sit on elephants during the parade on Jan 26. Doesn’t that violate model code of conduct?” the CM tweeted. Modi did not name the Election Commission but asked if the Congress would remove elephants from the parade.

“Will Congress ask for elephants to be removed? What will happen to Live TV coverage? So ridiculous…” he wrote on twitter. Election Commission had ordered covering up of all statues of UP CM Mayawati and her party Bahujan Samaj Party’s election symbol, the elephant, till elections are over in the state.
