Meanwhile, the Congress organised a parallel fast on the ground opposite Nandod taluka panchayat. It was Modi's ninth day-long fast at district level since the launch of three-day statewide Sadbhavana Mission in Ahmedabad on September 17.
The function was attended by people from far-off villages in Nandod, Tilakwada, Dediapada and Sagbara talukas of Narmada district.
About 8,000 people joined him in the fast at the venue. Modi said that tribals had to bear the brunt of neglect. He said that the Congress party, during its 40-year rule, did not open a single school with science stream in the tribal areas. He said that his government had started at least one higher secondary school with science stream in each and every tribal-dominated taluka in the past 10 years.
He said that the government had started 'Sakhi Mandal' for economic empowerment of women, that handles assorted tiny and cottage industries worth Rs1,400 crore annually.
Meanwhile, Congress MLA, including party chief whip in the assembly Iqbal Patel, Amarsinh Vasava, Mohansinh Rathwa, Dhirubhai Bhil and former minister of state for railways Naran Rathwa sat on the parallel fast. Around 6,000 people gathered at the venue.
Former minister and former BJP general secretary, Nalin Bhatt, and his supporters protested against the CM's Sadbhavana fast at Rajpipla with black flags under the banner of 'Din Dayal Seva Sangharsh Samiti'. They were detained by the police.
