The three youths accused in the Surat gangrape case were brought to the Directorate of Forensic Science Laboratory, Gandhinagar, to undergo narco testing this Monday. They were twice taken to the Gandhinagar Civil hospital for medical fitness tests from the FSL on Saturday.

Shahid Saiyad, Tariq Saiyad and Abu Bacher Shaikh were brought to the DFSL at around 11 am on Saturday. “We will initially conduct narco tests on them. If needed, we will later conduct other tests on them,” said JM Vyas, director, DFSL. He further said that the three were taken to the Gandhinagar Civil hospital as the medical tests were required before the narco tests are conducted on them. If required, lie-detector tests will also be conducted on the trio, he said.

The accused will be in the city for three days and may have to stay for up to a week if further tests are required. Their mental status before facing the narco tests was analysed by FSL experts. The trio can be interrogated till June 26. After undergoing the fitness tests at the Civil hospital, the accused were sent back to the FSL, where they were questioned by experts, a source in the FSL said. “They were cooperative and seemed very normal during interrogation,” the source said. While the three will be interrogated by the FSL during the day, they will be in the custody of the Ahmedabad crime branch at night, a source in the FSL said.
