A local court here on Tuesday granted permission to Surat police to conduct narco-analysis, brain-mapping and lie-detection tests on the three accused in the gangrape case. The court order came after the accused were produced in the court.

This is mainly after the recovery of more MMS clippings from the mobile phones of the three rapists. The police want to find out the nefarious background of the trio in order to strengthen evidences against them.

A senior police officer said the trio would be taken for the tests after FSL officials finalise the dates in consultation with the police. Sources in the crime branch said that the tests would be conducted in Bengaluru instead of Gandhinagar because the lab in Karantaka’s capital is the most advanced in the country.

According to police sources, the three tests would help the police ascertain the veracity of the new charges they had applied against the three accused. The police have applied section 377 (unnatural sex) and section 294 (cheat people by faking identity) of IPC against the trio.

The tests would also help police to understand the whole gamut of unlawful activities the three were involved in, especially after seizure of more sex clippings from their cellphones.

DCP (Crime Branch) Subhash Trivedi said: “The tests will help in framing accurate charges against the culprits. Besides this, it will also help in finding out whether these youths had any relation with any group to supply porn.’’
