101 bands from across the globe participated in a contest on the occasion.
A special musical competition among the bands of the Dawoodi Bohra community was organised at VNSGU campus in Surat on Thursday. The event was organised to celebrate the 101st birthday of Dr Syedna. Surat's bands emerged both champion and runner-up.
101 musical bands comprising 14 band guards and 3 band scouts participated in the competition at VNSGU (Veer Narmad South Gujarat University).
All the groups were asked to perform symphony and other musical acts. The competition started in the morning and went on till late in the evening.
The bands who won the competition were from Surat. Shabab Guard band won the first prize, while Saifee Scout finished runner-up.
"The bands were judged on their uniform, musical performance and rhythmic style. An expert panel of musicians was assigned the task of judging the performances", said Yusuf Gujarati, a member of the Dawoodi Bohra Jamat Committee of Surat.
According to Gujarati, the entire competition was planned to make the celebrations of the 101st b'day of Dr Syedna a special one.
Winners of the competition will be honored by Dr Syedna and the award function will be held on Sunday where the winners will be handed their prizes.
During the day, Syedna's daughter's marriage was performed at Masjid in Devdi and he blessed the couple.
Along with the top Aaleem of the community, Dr Syedna was also present.
A special mass marriage ceremony has been organised by the committee on Sunday. The committee has received 150 applications for participating in the ceremony, which will be performed by Dr. Syedna and his son Sayedi Muffadal.
