Murder captured live on camera in Coimbatore

A youth was fatally beaten up in a drunken brawl by his four friends in full public glare in Coimbatore -- an act which was recorded in a hidden camera leading to the arrest of the culprits.

Santosh Kumar, 28 was thrashed by his friends near a traffic signal in Saibabha Colony locality at 2pm on July 10 even as passersby simply watched the incident, visuals released by police showed.

The man was admitted to the government hospital and he succumbed to his injuries yesterday, police said.

With the help of recordings of hidden surveillance cameras set up at strategic locations, police arrested the four persons and produced them before a court which remanded them to judicial custody.

On the day of the incident, Kumar and his four friends consumed liquor from a bar and an ensuing verbal duel between them turned violent, police said.

Meanwhile, Kumar's 21-year-old widow submitted a memorandum yesterday seeking compensation and a government job.
