Madhya Pradesh Congress election campaign committee chairman and senior party MLA, Ajay Singh today charged the state government with hushing up the multi-crore cooperative bank scam.

"Madhya Pradesh cooperative minister, GS Bisen had promised in the state assembly on March 10 that strict action would be taken against those involved in the scam but no action has been taken against the errant officials so far," Ajay told PTI in Bhopal.

This clearly shows that the Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led BJP government was shielding Apex Bank officials involved in the scam, he said.

The senior Congress leader said that the Centre had given Rs914 crore to Madhya Pradesh for loan waiver of farmers but Rs114 crore were siphoned off by the cooperative banks of the state.

"It is unfortunate that no action has been taken in one of the biggest scams in the cooperative sector in which officials embezzled Rs114 crore from the funds meant for farmers," Ajay said.

He said that during the last Assembly election in the state, the BJP had promised in its poll manifesto to waive off Rs50,000 loan of farmers but after coming to power, instead of fulfilling its promise, it had siphoned Rs114 crore, from the money given by the Centre for farmers' loan waiver.
