Madhya Pradesh DGP today appealed to the Centre to extend its support in completely eradicating the Maoist insurgency from the state.

"We should not sit complacent on the naxalite problem and always be on alert and prepared to tackle it provided the government of India extends its continued help and support," DGP SK Raut told a press conference here.

The Centre has provided a grant of Rs25 crore under the integrated action plan chalked out for eight districts in the state and has also promised a fund of Rs30 crore in the next financial year, the top cop said.

"Huge funds were required for linking roads and setting up hospitals in these districts," he said.

The DGP also informed that a number of cities in the state are on a terror radar and the concerned agencies, including the ATS, are all prepared to thwart terrorists designs.

"A number of cities, including Indore, Ratlam, Ujjain, and Bhopal are on the radar of terrorists. Kabhi bhi yanha ghatnaein ho sakti hain (any incident could happen in these cities)," he said.

"ATS is all prepared to meet and counter any terror (threat) and terrorists from Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Gujarat have been caught over a period of time," the top cop said.

Informing about the efforts being undertaken in this regard, Raut said about 188 police posts have been created and the ATS was actively working and made a breakthrough in Khandwa in last 18 months.

"Four cyber cells based on the Crime and Criminal Tracking Networking System (CCTNS) are being set up in four major cities, namely Indore, Bhopal, Gwalior and Jabalpur. Online CCTNS and inter-connectivity of all police stations with the head quarters and control rooms would be the main feature of these cyber cells," the DGP said.

Replying to a query on maintaining law and order ahead of the 'jail bharo' agitation planned by Opposition Congress tomorrow, he said, "In democracy everyone has a right to protest, but we will maintain law and order and peace at all costs".
