Noted television star, Smriti Irani is among the ten BJP leaders who are said to be lobbying hard for the two Rajya Sabha seats from Madhya Pradesh for which bye-elections are to be held soon.

BJP sources said that apart from Irani, the only other lady who was contending for a Rajya Sabha seat from the state is Sudha Mallaiya, wife of state minister, Jayant Mallaiyya.

The two bye-elections for the Rajya Sabha seats have become necessary as two members of the Upper House of Parliament from the state have been elected to the Lok Sabha recently.

While senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj won with a thumping majority from the Vidisha constituency, Madhya Pradesh BJP president Narendra Singh Tomar was elected from the Morena constituency.

The ten who are in the race for a seat in the Rajya Sabha include Captain Singh Solanki and Krishna Murari Moghe both of whom are former organising secretaries for the Madhya Pradesh BJP.

Veteran BJP leader, Kailash Sarang, who has served one term in the Rajya Sabha earlier, is also in the list of contenders for a ticket this time.

The Madhya Pradesh BJP has two vice-president, Vijendra Singh Sisodiya and Anil Dave and both of them are lobbying hard for a Rajya Sabha ticket.

Prahlad Patel, who had left the BJP to join Uma Bharti's party, is now back in the party and he too is eyeing a Rajya sabha seat.

BJP national general secretary, Thawarchand Gehlot who lost Lok Sabha election for the first time in his career is hopeful of getting elected to the Rajya sabha.

Ravi Nandan Singh of Gwalior, who recently resigned from the post of the Madhya Pradesh attorney-general is also in the race to the Rajya sabha.
